The Bulgarian Union of Standardizers (BUS) is established on 30th of April 1991 on initiative by distinguished Bulgarian standardizers, as national, independent, voluntary, creative-professional community of specialists. They carry out practical or research activities and/or are interested in the development and putting into practice the standardization and related accreditation and certification of products, services, quality systems and personal.
Goal of BUS is to assist the creative-professional progress and realization of its members, to protect their creative-professional interests, to organize and energize their activity for solving the problems in the field of standardization, accreditation and certification in business and social area.
BUS is recorded by the Law for the nonprofit legal entities as association with private benefit.
BUS has about 560 individual members – scientists, engineers, technicians and other specialists. Except that it has 14 regional organizations and 5 collective members.
BUS is a regular member and establisher of Federation of scientific and technical unions in Bulgaria, and since 2003 its members receive uniform federative member card.
BUS works on the problems of standardization, accreditation and certification together with the competent state and public authorities and organizations in the country. Such are Bulgarian Institute for Standardization, State Agency for Metrology and Technical Supervision, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, Ministry of defense, Bulgarian Industrial Association, Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Federation of consumers in Bulgaria, Bulgarian Council for voluntary certification, certain universities and etc.
BUS is a member of the Balkan Council for co-operation in the field of standardization and related activities and maintains connections with International Federation of Standards Users (IFAN) and international and European organizations for standardization.
BUS publishes a news bulletin and collection of reports from the conferences and symposiums carried out.
BUS maintains information database about Bulgarian and international standards and other Bulgarian and international normative and informative publications at disposal of his members.
